Tip – The Bacalhau à Gomes de Sá usually comes with black olives, but I always like to mix a couple of green ones, it gives a more intensified and contrast to the food, but not too many as it will cut the flavours.

Today it is a more commercial house offering products such as “Pão-de-Ló” which is a type of Sponge Cake (Really delicious if I can say so) and different types of biscuits and cookies. You could hear the locals talking of when they were younger and used to buy and pack cookies for school to eat during school breaks or families that would eat together during tea or coffee. They also wrote a book that tells the history of the factory and some of their really old recipes (Ps – Don’t read this book at night, the cookie monster will appear in your room).

Tip – Enjoy a nice Port wine with dark chocolate, or my favorite, drinking sips of Porto while eating a pastel de nata.

Not directly produced or created in Porto, but Vinho Verde is a must in all Portuguese tables specially during the good weather season. It is a light and refreshing wine that is produced in the Minho region of Portugal. It is known for its slight fizz and green color, which comes from the young grapes used in its production. Vinho Verde is a great choice for hot summer days and pairs well with seafood and salads. Some of the best Vinho Verde can be found in the city of Braga or Felgueiras, which is located about an hour from Porto.
Tip – If you are on a tight budget, I do recommend the Cooperativa Agrícola Felgueiras DOC Vinho Verde, you can buy in most the supermarkets or Hypermarkets.

Super Bock is a popular beer brand in Portugal, and it is available in different varieties such as Super Bock Original, Super Bock Stout, and Super Bock Abadia. There is also Sagres beer, but it is said that it more drunk in the South. There are also several local drinks that are worth trying, such as Ginja, a cherry liqueur that is often served in a chocolate cup, and Moscatel, a sweet wine that is produced in the Setúbal region of Portugal.
